about
The first single from upcoming 6th solo album 'We Need To Be Free' by Jodi Phillis, 'Summer of Fires' was inspired by the catastrophic 2019/20 Australian bushfires, and is a poetic lament, with a lush orchestral viola arrangement by Melbourne musician Biddy Connor and production by composer and member of Dropping Honey, Damien Lane.
Co-written by Jodi Phillis and poet Martha Sear, The song is very much a call to action to take climate change seriously and protect out natural world.
This is a cry for country
lyrics
In came the smoke from the mountains,
In came the smoke with the wind,
Mixing the last breath of numberless lives with mine,
With mine, With mine, With mine, With mine.
Out went the ash with the ocean,
Back came the ash on the tide,
Drawing in coal-black along the whole shore - a line,
A line, A line, A line, A line.
And we call out as one voice alone in the dark
No reply
Only a fool would allow this to happen to our
Prescious world
Now the ship has sailed and it’s time
To wake up
In came the dust from the dry lands,
In came the dust from the plains,
Carrying cries from the rivers and fishes, gone.
No more, No more, No more, No more.
And we call out as one voice alone in the dark
No reply
Only a fool would allow this to happen to our
Prescious world
In the blink of an eye we’re gone
In came the people, in darkness,
Down to the beaches and halls,
From the burned heart flies an ember to kindle the call....
