This is a twist on the old fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, originally written in 1740 by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. I’ve used the story as an analogy for co-dependent relationships. What if instead of a happy ending like in the Disney version, Belle realises that this guy is actually keeping her prisoner and she has let it happen without even realising? She finally understands that in order to reclaim her freedom and her sanity, she needs to run away, leaving her heart behind. It’s a really sad song.
